Lows and Highs
As most of the family went to bed quite late, we slowly pulled ourselves together and headed out. After stopping in at Starbucks we walked to the car, parked on a distant street.
Chloe had been talking about how she would love to see a cave, so when I brought up “Skyline Drive” as an idea and Rob pulled up “Luray Caverns”, we knew we had a nice trip to take. We headed out west on 66; we are learning all the ways in and out of DC through these trips. As we got out went, Chloe was of course getting hungry. We went right to Luray Canerns and ate at the Stalactite Cafe where we had blah pizza and salad.
There was no wait to go on a cavern tour; we bought tickets and started walking down the stairs into the massive system of caverns. They were spectacular! We all got “cave kissed” by dripping water as we wound our way through the passageways. The girls both loved it; the organ that was set up to “play” the stalactites in one room was pretty neat.
From there, we headed over to Skyline Drive to drive north back to I-66. The views were gorgeous as the sun was setting. We saw one deer and lots of gorgeous views. Lots of people stopped their cars to get out and play in the fallen leaves. The girls were chilly and only got out the first time.

We went there about four years ago and loved it! You are so lucky that you missed the over hour long line. Your pictures, here and on the flickr badge, are wonderful.
Thanks Madeline! Yes, there was no line at all — the guide let us straggle to look at the formations and take photos as much as we wanted. Very nice!
