Going Postal
For our final full day in DC on this trip, Camille really wanted to go to the National Postal Museum. Located off The Mall across the street from Union Station, this a museum we have been to a number of times when in DC for an XMKids Rumpus room show. I could tell there was one thing in particular Camille wanted to do, but she wouldn’t come out and say it. We took metro over to Union Station, had a nice lunch ar Au Bon Pain, and then went in the museum.
Chloe was incredulous that she had to put her stuffed penguin trough the xray machine. The security guard, not knowing how many times Chloe has flown, mistook Chloe’s reaction as one of worry that her penguin would disappear. Once inside, the girls headed right to the postcard machines and sent a few postcards. Camille then headed for her goal, the mass marketing area where you get an id, your picture taken, etc, but unfortunately, the machine wasn’t working. So I’m sure we’ll be heading back on our next trip.
From the postal museum, we walked down Louisiana to The Mall. Along the way, we stopped at the National Japanese American Memorial. Having been to Hiroshima and then seeing the Enola Gay this weekend, the girls were able to understand the memorial as I explained it to them. We then walked east along The Mall towards the Washington Monument. I had no idea that there was a National Butterfly Garden, but what a nice little garden it is!
We met up with Rob between the Washington Monument and the White House. The White House was preparing for a big party with a stage set up and lots of limos around. We walked by a yuppie restaurant named “The Breadline” and then one block later, walked by a real breadline, where s charity group was giving our sandwiches and soup to the homeless. The birds were also getting a meal as well.
As we got closer the apartment, the girls were hungry, so we stopped at the Froggy Bottom and ate pizza outside before heading back. As I have been fighting a cold, I went to bed quite early.

What is your favorite thing to do in DC?
We have only been to DC two or three times – and have pretty much stuck to the mall area. I would love to spend more time there.
I loved visiting DC. Days of museums ๐ Looks like a fun time.
Chloe has a stuffed penguin? Lilah’s a big penguin fan.
Kat – I don’t know yet our favorite thing! Our to-see list is a mile long! I love being able to take the train or walk almost everywhere. So nice…
Allison – Plus work…Work in the morning, museums in the afternoon. It isn’t bad!
Chloe spent her birthday money at Borders…she came home with three new stuffed animals. Chloe is a stuffed animal fan. Sigh.
