Japan Trip, Day 5
I was up very early. The rest woke soon after. We headed down to breakfast just before 6:30. The buffet wasn’t open yet, so we went down to the beach for a few minutes. The buffet was half closed; squid ink sausage was on the table again. Black sausages look strange, but Rob said that he had black French bread yesterday. Totally weird.
The girls love rice and seaweed for breakfast. There were very few people at breakfast, but lots of little kids. We haven’t seen any elementary age kids, so I guess school must not be out yet. After breakfast, Rob and Camille went down to the beach to swim. At 7:30am, they were only people in the swimming area.
After Rob left for work, the girls and I went to the garden pool for a long swim. When the clouds blew in, we went to the indoor pool for even longer. After the girls were waterlogged, we went up to the room to clean up and then down to the marche for ice cream and chips to supplement our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
As I paid, I tried to get rid of change. I managed to get rid of all the Y1 pieces (worth 1/100 of a penny!). There was one coin with no arabic numeral on it, so I asked if it was the Y5. How frustrating. But then Rob said someone pointed out to him that the US coins don’t have arabic numbers on them, and the dime doesn’t even say “ten” on it. How frustrating that must be for foreign visitors to the US!!
We had a quiet afternoon in the room, watching tv (The girls have never before seen Wheel of Fortune), working on the computer, reading and napping. We were all exhausted from the day before. Rob came back around 6pm and took the girls back to the pool. After they came back, both girls were tired. After a bit, I realized Chloe actually had a fever. We crushed up half a tylenol to give to her. The girls haven’t been sick in forever. Why now? We ended up not going to dinner, but just went to bed early.
Down in the marche, they have some souvenirs, including some really sweet ShiSa. We saw lots of these decorations on rooftops as we drove through Okinawa yesterday. They are intended to ward off various evil spirits. I think we’ll pick up a few sets before we leave.

Oh, hope Chloe feels better soon. My theory is that traveling (especially flying with all those germs recirculating for hours) is hard on the immune system. Maybe all the seaweed will help, though.
How funny to go all the way to Japan and see Wheel of Fortune for the first time!
I’m sorry about Chloe…is she feeling better now? My kids are never sick either…but Madalyn had her first ear infection in forever right before going to camp…and Katie had pink eye while she was there (had to be put in quarrantine for a day).
My cousin was stationed in Okinawa a few years ago and brought us back a shisa…but she called it something else…can’t recall what ๐
Allison – Thanks. I sure hope she will too. She is napping now (11:30am) and had no desire to go to the beach or the pool. Thankfully, “Herimone” is entertaining Camille. We had a minor crisis when her battery didn’t charge last night, but it must have just been a “switched” outlet, because she charged fine this morning.
Kat – Yeah, my girls are rarely sick, but travel can introduce you to many new germ friends, I guess. She’s still got a slight fever and says that she has a headache ๐ I just hope that it doesn’t turn into a stomach thing — that makes travel a NIGHTMARE!
Tell Chloe to get better quickly.
