Ireland Trip: Day 1
As we boarded the plane in JFK, it was already the next day in Ireland. The sun was up before we knew it as the plane crossed the Atlantic. A quick breakfast and a quicker cup of coffee, and we then we landed at Shannon. We quickly made it through immigration and customs and out to meet the rental car people. But they weren’t there. I called the number – out of service. I walked in to the desk – it was gone. The Information lady helped me get in contact with them, and the driver came quickly. They had just moved offices, thus the phones were down, people were confused, and it took a long time to get our car.
With my mom navigating and me driving (stick shift on the left, driving on the left, going around roundabouts clockwise), we made it to Galway without a problem. We had a little difficulty finding the apartment at first, but then we were there and unloaded the car. The girls relaxed then took a nap. I caught up on personal and work tasks. Barbara and Rob went out to grocery shop and meet “Tony” to add Rob to the rental car agreement.
Barbara made a pizza and salad, but the girls slept through dinner. Rob, Barbara and I went out for a walk around Galway before it started to rain, though I suppose there’s no avoiding rain really. The girls woke from their naps and had some dinner, then Rob took Chloe out to the store to get some soup and treats.
