inbox zero.
Every so often I hit inbox zero.. Right now, I’m at inbox zero for both work AND for my personal email for probably the first time ever! Part of my “simplify and organize” plan this year is to try to keep it that way. The first step – unsubscribe from all of those darn retail

cupcakes.
For our century party, we bought 100 mini-cupcakes instead of a cake. And we still have a fridge filled with cupcakes …
new desk chair.
Now that I’m working full-time, I’m spending a lot more of my day sitting. While I’m not quite ready to consider a standing desk, I decided I was ready for a change. With a Christmas gift certificate, I bought myself a new “chair”!
what season?
Years ago, when the kids were younger, I was working on addressing out Christmas cards while sitting in the bleachers during their swim lessons. One of the coaches walked by and asked if I had fallen behind or was getting a head start. Yes, the cards were sent out quite late that year. Since then,
half my life.
8937 days. That is half of my life today. As well as the number of days that Rob and I have been married. I won’t say that he’s my “better half”. We each have our own selves. We are wholes, not two halves that make a whole. But, for better or worse, we have now
oh, the wait ….
Phelix just could not wait for Christmas! Chloe had piles of presents to wrap in her room. Twice Phelix snuck in there and took off with his gift. An then finally, the wait was over!! Unfortunately, Santa was very quickly decapitated by this rough and tumble boy of ours… he is not gentle with his

arabiascape.
Three years ago, we bought a little slice of one of my happy places, called Arabiascape. I had ideas of putting a tiny house or yurt on the land and making it into a place where we could escape from the city. But life intervened. And Stonecrest became a (somewhat dysfunctional) city. So for now,
“If I Can Do It, Anyone Can”
Boy, does that phrase just get under my skin. I won’t rant about it, but please, please, never say it. It’s never true. And it just makes the person who *can’t* do it feel pretty awful… or frustrated that you can’t see the situation from their point of view.
making connections.
Recently, I’ve added German to my daily Duolingo routine. Many of my coworkers are German as are some of our customers. I always saw German as an impossible language, but, at least at the beginner’s level, it is not so complicated. One thing I’ve found with learning German is that it helps me with making
bloomin’ cactus.
The gift that keeps on giving. A couple of years ago, a friend brought me this Christmas cactus as a hostess gift. I thought that, like every poinsettia that I’ve ever bought, it would last the .season and then be done. So how surprised I was that it not only lived a whole year, but

the most exciting time of the year.
It is getting real! Chloe has now been accepted at three different colleges! She’s still waiting for a few more, but the decision is going to be very tough! But, it is nice to have choices….
not my job.
In some ways, it is *exactly* my job. But in oh so many ways, it is not. The other day, I received this comment on my blog post about DOcplex: Even when I followed your method, I got the following errors: DOcplexExceptionTraceback (most recent call last) in () 1 mdl.print_information() … DOcplexException: CPLEX runtime not
headspace.
This week, I worked on picking up a few new habits to help deal with the anxiety of everything that’s going on around me. For one, I subscribed to Ma href=””>headspace, an app for learning to meditate. I’ve tried a numbre of times to start meditating, but nothing could convince my monkey mind to slow
taking photos.
The other day, Chloe remarked that I used to *always* carry a camera with me … it’s true. Actually I used to carry 2-3 cameras with me! These days, I’ve gotten lazy and just use my phone. But I miss taking photos. So I got out the ol’ DSLR and will be making more of

Happy 100th! birthday to me and Rob! Yes, we turned 100 on Sunday…. Rob’s 50th birthday passed uncelebrated as it was a chaotic time in our lives. So he decided we should have a combined 50th birthday party, on the day that the sum of our ages made us 100… We invited everyone, had way
