decatur: slide the city
3:30am I was up. With all the unloading of the tractor trailer trucks right outside my window, how could I sleep? Chloe and I watched as the barricades were erected, the mats put down, the slide rolled out and blown up. I left at 6:45 to go to the police station for my radio (it wasn’t there). For three hours I manned a barricade; mostly, I watched the setup and answered a few questions.
Unfortunately the event was canceled at 1pm due to a broken water main – no water = no water slide. Rob and the girls had tickets for 1pm, so they didn’t get their chance to slide.
Then I watched as they packed up – took over 4 hours to get it all taken apart. The sliding was supposed to end at 9pm, but they slide was all packed up and the streets re-opened by then.
