book report for 28 jul 2015
This week, I finished two books.
I started and finished a book I found on our condo bookshelf, A Density of Souls by Christopher Rice. I thoroughly enjoyed this “coming-of-age” novel set in New Orleans.
I finished up the library book from last week that I wasn’t enjoying, Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story by David Levithan. It is a YA “musical novel”, and I really had to push myself to finish it.
I started another library book this week. Surprisingly, this is actually a fun and easy read. Standard Deviations: Flawed Assumptions, Tortured Data, and Other Ways to Lie with Statistics by Gary Smith is quite entertaining.
I read a few more pages of the book that I bought at the mall in Hyannis, The Old Ways: A Journey on Foot by Robert Macfarlane. I’ve been reading a selection of “walker explorer” books lately, and this one looks like a nice addition to the list.
While on the Cape, I started reading The College Solution: A Guide for Everyone Looking for the Right School at the Right Price (2nd Edition) by Lynn O’Shaughnessy. I actually found myself wanting to bookmark and highlight it, so I ended up buying a copy for myself.
I’m still reading The Road to McCarthy: Around the World in Search of Ireland by Pete McCarthy, but since we’re now home from our Irish Adventure, it has gone to the bottom of my pile, but I hope to finish it up this week.
Today, I headed to the library and picked up The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. I haven’t started it yet, but will do so soon. It came highly recommended by a person I met at a training class. He says that it changed his life, so I am interested in hearing what it reveals.
I keep a list of completed books on Goodreads. I also keep one here on my blog.
