Ireland Trip: Day 7
An early morning for the girls since we had to be out the door by 8:30 to walk over to the ferry office to collect our tickets. Barbara stopped for a geocache at the Spanish Arch, but we had trouble putting it back together. I ran ahead to the office where I stood in a long and growing longer line. By the time we got on the bus to the ferry it was getting full, but we got seats together on the top level. Chloe was disappointed that the ferry had no good outdoor seating, so we sat inside and spread out as it was very empty. Just as we thought it was time to leave, a huge school group arrived and filled every seat.
Once on the island, we debated about what to do and finally decided on a horse trap tour. The driver had his dog lead the way until the puppy got tired. When the tour was over, we used the restroom, then walked up to the castle. It was quite peaceful up there until the school group invaded. We then walked down to the hotel for lunch: quiche, salad, soup, grilled cheese and fries.
After lunch, we stopped in gift store; Chloe chose a bracelet and Camille a necklace. Barbara and Camille went off to explore more of the island while Chloe and I went to the beach. We found a nice quiet spot away from the school group and relaxed for a bit. But then another school group came and started tossing their rugby ball and getting noisy very close to us. Then we heard them all yell “Shark!” and run down to the water. The dolphin had come close to shore.
After watching the dolphin play and the dog on the beach try to chase it, Chloe and I left the beach and met up with Camille and Barbara at the fudge shop. Then Chloe wanted ice cream. The ferry home had seats outside, so Chloe and I sat outside while Camille and Barbara went in. The ferry stopped at the other two islands and was quite full by the time it left for Rossaveal. The bus to Galway left just as we arrived and we had to wait a while for another to come. Back in Galway, we picked up soups for dinner on our walk home.
