We all slept in. Phil and Barbara came by and then Mary Irene arrived to hang out for a few hours. We had a nice day reading and relaxing at the yurt.
volunteering: red cross
I haven’t said a work about the red cross for months. One might think that I’ve quit in my goal to volunteer there. But, no, I have been heading over to the chapter at least once a week for almost a year now. Despite some upheavals at the Red Cross, I’ve found a nice little

I spent the day working and preparing; Phelix was so excited to go to Pets Playhouse! When the girls got home from school, we headed out to our yurt at High Falls State
photo friday: national zoo
It is rare that we make a trip to DC and skip the zoo, not even for bad weather. In the past few years, we’ve certainly been there more often than our own zoo here in Atlanta. I think Chloe’s favorite place on earth is the reptile house at the National Zoo; I can’t tell

Rob left for Mexico. I was planning to have a quiet, productive day at home, but then a lack of water pressure sent all the kids home – 12 of them came to our house. I fed, cleaned and kept up with them. Then I was tired.
waylaid.
I’ve had one of the best weeks ever. Work has been awesome. I’ve been productive and been handed a project that really appeals to me (and even uses my mad Python skillz). I’ve volunteered, hiked, gone to a neighborhood association meeting. I’ve cooked and prepared for a camping trip. Until today. I had worked extra

I got to work and got the girls off to school Mid-morning, Phelix and I went off to take a short hike at Arabia Mountain. Camille came home with friends in tow; Chloe got home after 6:30. Rob got home after I left for the Downtown Decatur Neighborhood meeting. Leftovers for dinner!
sur la table.
While it was not a goal of my current portion of my Happiness Project, it is a lovely side consequence. Though we bought a simple table and chairs to replace my beloved mission table (now living with a friend), we hadn’t eaten at the table much since we moved to Decatur. I didn’t have the

A day of work, school and volunteering. I am finding that I love the rhythm of my days. No longer feeling frenetic, frantic I can do what needs to be done. Dinner was a little complicated with a fennel bulb and rapini and rice “pancakes”, but we survived.
remodeling.
Fifteen years ago we moved to a ranch house that had good bones and a great lot, but was in need of lots of love and updating. And we updated. And updated. And updated. Walls came down. Stairs were moved. A backyard was rearranged. Walls were painted. windows and doors (interior and exterior) replaced. A

I got up at 5 to take care of the house and chores and to get the girls up for school. Once everyone left, I worked a bit and had a conference call, then walked to the library and the grocery store. I worked for a couple more hours, then read and watched one of

Chloe made a breakfast of potatoes and omelets, then we picked up around the house. Barbara came, and we went to the Cezanne exhibit at the High; it was crowded! We had a late lunch at a pita place. Camille studied during the afternoon. When Rob got home from his coax workshop, he and Chloe

I got up early to go work at Run with the Dogs. When I got back, Rob had just left for a ham radio festival. The five girls were just getting up. I got them to do chores and help around the house. In the evening, we made baked mac&cheese for dinner and watched “Boyhood”.

I had a great day at work. Rob had a horrible morning at the dentist. Amy and I enjoyed a leisurely lunch. I worked more then was invaded by teenagers. At first there were 16 kids here, then more kids and adults arrived for a very large game night.
photo friday: u.s. capitol
Since we haven’t been to the Capitol for years, not since before the opening of the new Visitor’s Center, I though we’d squeeze in a Capitol tour as well. While the same aide that got us tickets to the White House got us tickets to the Capitol, he reserved them before we knew when the

This was one of my best mornings. Everyone was gone, the house picked up and the dog walked by8. I settled right down to work, and worked all day on learning Python. When Chloe came home, we walked over to Sawicki’s to pick up our Moore Farms food box. Chloe and I then made quesadillas

Leave it to me to choose the coldest day so far this winter to go on my first “long walk”. Part of my Energy and Empowerment year is to go on a weekly long walk. Sometimes in the woods, sometimes not. Sometimes with Phelix, sometimes not. To make it easy on myself, I decided that
