Camille was feeling sick, but we managed to clean up and pack up and get to the cabin for our New Years’ Eve celebration.
happiness project: EMPOWER and ENERGY (2015)
Here we are closing up the year 2014. And as people do, I’m thinking about what has gone by and how to plan for the new year ahead. 2014 was my year to SIMPLIFY and PREPARE. Happily, I’ve managed to complete most of the major projects on that list. Old projects have been completed and

Camille spent the day in recovery mode, sleeping and resting. Chloe went off to skate and ride the new streetcar with friends. Rob went to Alabama to kayak. I spent the day holding down the fort, organizing and preparing to head out of town.
python adventures.
With nothing pressing at work and most of my coworkers out for an extended winter break, I thought that maybe I would tackle an interesting project. Of the many ideas I came up with, I decided that getting started with learning Python might be a nice challenge. Step 1. Find a good tutorial. I found

The big adventure for today was Camille having all four of her wisdom teeth removed. Phil and Barbara stopped by on their way to the cabin; Phelix was practically doing backflips when they arrived.

A day where everyone went their own way, then we came together and had kale chips and scalloped potatoes for dinner.
brain training.
I like to believe that I used to be smart. I always did well in school and completed my doctorate at age 25. But then something happened. Maybe it was a serious case of the so-called “mommy-brain”. Or too much multi-tasking to keep up with being a homeschooling, traveling, working mom. Or too little time

Rob worked on his electronics project. Camille worked on her sophomore project, sewing. Chloe worked on getting her hair colored – it didn’t work. I made dinner for seven people – not everyone got plenty since I had thought I was cooking for four. After dinner, I took five teens to go see the new
not judging.
Is it social media? Is it me feeling like I’m not all I should be? I don’t quite know, but over the past year, I’ve found myself being a bit judgmental. I keep it to myself, but I don’t like it. Not one bit. I remind myself that I don’t know these people or I

After extended morning chores, the girls had time to play on the Xbox before Rob took them to Six Flags for the afternoon. I had time to color and draw as well as watch old movies.
photo friday: washington monument
Despite our quite numerous extended trips up to DC, especially the year that Rob had an apartment there, we never made it to the Washington Monument. To correct this neglectfulness, as soon as I arranged to hopefully have a White House tour, I booked tickets at the Washington Monument. And not a moment too soon.

While it would be nice to have a real fireplace, our apartment living doesn’t allow for one. So when I feel the need for one, I settle for the virtual one.
merry christmas.
It was a quiet Christmas. Almost too quiet for my liking. I’ve worked hard to have enough downtime, but now I need to start adding in some more fun things as well. I wish we had made a nice breakfast, taken a walk, gone to the movies. As I consider my goals for next year,

protecting my time.
I’m notorious for quickly finding a new project whenever I seem to find a spare minute. I’ll decided to start a new blog, volunteer for some organization, learn something new. And then I have too.much.to.do. Yet again. What a terrible cycle. As I worked to free myself from all of my (mostly) self-created obligations over

take a walk.
The other day, I realized I needed something from the grocery store that our Baby Kroger doesn’t stock. Which meant I would have to get in the car and go to a further off store to get it. But why not walk? My mind screamed “YOU DON’T HAVE TIME!” What? Instead of a 30 minute

For the first time ever, we managed to finish a puzzle without losing a single piece! Rob, Camille and I then went to see Big Hero 6 – Chloe had already seen it … so she stayed home.
