summer passport 2013: week 6
This week, we completed only *four* more of our summer passport activities. So now, if we were doing a daily tally, I think we are behind by ten activities. We’ll need to start doubling up, I think… This week we completed: 10. Hemp/floss bracelets : 27 jun 2013 20. Atlanta History Museum : 25 jun
daily photo: sunset
I took today off. Why is it so hard for me to give my self guilt-free downtime? After a busy week, I need it. A time to read, reflect and relax. We did a little cleaning up, but other than that I tried to stay off-line and in a relaxed mode. And, other than the
daily photo: game night
In the past, our game nights have only had a couple people playing games and others doing lots of taking and hanging out. This time? Everyong including Phelix (but not me) was engaged in a game at one point. Hooray!
photo friday: sirius/xm in NYC
As with our past few trips to NYC for Kindiefest, this latest trip also included a long evening of seriously great kindie music at my happy place — well, not my true happy place, as that’s XM in DC, but a good second to it.
daily photo: dinner
The girls loved the special dinner I made tonight – grilled cheese and soup. Hmm. Maybe I need to just go with simple and easy from now on!

volunteering: CERT
Last week, I completed my CERT Class. While I’m glad to have my Thursday nights back, I’ll miss heading to the class and learning more about disaster response each week. While I’m still hoping to volunteer with the Red Cross, I think I’m going to not sign up for any more classes right away. For
daily photo: yogurt tap
After a concert at the (hot) library, what could be better than a stop at The Yogurt Tap??
Georgia: Funk Heritage Center
Continuing with our field trips related to our Georgia history studies, we headed to the Funk Heritage Center while we were at the cabin last weekend. We found a lovely museum with exhibits on the area’s Native Americans. We also enjoyed the HUGE and artistically displayed exhibit of tools. The hike down to the Appalachian
daily photo: geometry
Mid-summer, but poor Camille is still toiling away at her Geometry homework. Hopefully she’ll finish it all up soon and have a bit of free time before school starts up on August 1st. August 1st!!
Happiness Project: Mindfulness Practice Week 2
Over the past month or two, I have been considering items from the 22 Things Happy People Do Differently. Of course, as these things go, things change. I’ve found a new, better list. And while the lists are helpful, strangely enough, my reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change
daily photo: monsters universtiy
One of the items on our Summer 2013 Passport List was to go to the new Monsters University movie. So exited were we, that we even bought Monsters Inc shirts to wear! To avoid the crowds, we went to the 10pm showing at North DeKalb Mall. We certainly avoided the crowds — there were only
summer passport 2013: week 5
This week, we completed *seven* more of our summer passport activities. So now, if we were doing a daily tally, I think we are still behind by three activities. Still do-able. Plus, we’ve edited the list a bit to add in some things that we really want to do, replacing things that maybe weren’t so
daily photo: flowers
While exploring the grounds at the Funk Heritage Museum today, I enjoyed taking a number of different photos of these flowers using different angles and backgrounds and depth of field settings.
daily photo: cabin flowers
With out too much difficulty, we packed up the car and headed to Blue Ridge. The girls went to a waterfall with Phil and Barbara while Phelix stayed behind with Gwyneth who tried to work. With no internet, it wasn’t easy to work…but eventually it all got done!
photo friday: central park
While we’ve been to Central Park in NYC before, this past trip to NYC we went twice more with a specific goal in mind: Find a couple of the locations where Doctor Who was filmed. And we actually were quite successful! The kids enjoyed visiting Strawberry Fields and strolling through the park, once on a
daily photo: zesto
To celebrate “National Ice Cream Soda Day”, we headed out to Zesto in Little Five Points. Since we hadn’t had lunch, we decided to eat there as well. Chloe said the food was too greasy and that she could have done better eating some fresh vegetables instead.
