school: expressions on the ave
The fifth grade at Chloe’s school has been hard at work on a “unit of inquiry” these past few weeks. While I’m not yet convinced that the IB program at her school is helping the kids to learn better as opposed to “having something to show”, Chloe was excited to have worked on the project and “have something to show”. I’ve made no secret of the fact that I don’t much enjoy visiting her school. It is her school, not mine. I feel very out of my element while I’m there, and I’d rather just stay away and let her have her own space.
But Chloe is so proud of what her class did and her own part in it. And she really wanted me to be there today to witness it. So I acted like the mature person I sometimes pretend to be and went. Only a few parents were in attendance, and Chloe beamed when she walked into the auditorium multi-purpose room and saw me there. Truly beamed. That grin was worth my putting myself in a place of discomfort!
