instagram: quiet evening
After my volunteer shift at the book fest, I picked up a couple movies at the library and headed home for a very quiet evening alone.
photo friday: medieval times
Back in June, Rob, the girls and I spent an evening at Medieval Times. Rob and Camille had gone before, but this was the first time that Chloe and I had been. And we had a blast cheering on the Blue Knight…who did not win, unfortunately. At the end, Chloe insisted on staying and getting

The rest of the family is busy with their Dragon*Con preparations; I’m looking forward to a couple of quiet, responsibility-free (other than my volunteer shifts at the Decatur Book Fest) couple of days….
HoopJam in Decatur
Now that the weather is starting to cool off a little, I hope that we can start getting out of the house after dinner a few times a week. Tonight after dinner, we headed out to HoopJam on the square. Chloe loved hooping and was very much in her element.

While walking through the Decatur Square this evening, Chloe spotted a watermelon. Not a watermelon that someone had left behind, but a watermelon that was actually growing. When we looked harder, there were actually a bunch of watermelons growing in the tiny little “beds”. Awesome!
Georgia: Etowah Indian Mounds, Take 2
When Camille and I were at Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site a few weeks ago, we spotted a notice for an upcoming Saturday event full of activities. Since I wanted to get the cabin, but we couldn’t leave on Friday due to Chloe’s school picnic, we decided to return and bring Chloe along. The

Camille and I headed to the Atlanta History Center today o tour the “Native Lands” exhibit that is currently on display and goes along nicely with what she’s been learning over the past couple months. We had the exhibit to ourselves; homeschooling is really good for crowd-averse folks.
new2school: school picnic
Last Friday, Camille, Chloe, Chloe’s friend and I packed up some fruit, veggies, bread and cheese and made our way down to Oakhurst for Chloe’s school picnic. Last year, Chloe attended the picnic with friends as we were starting to consider having her attend school there in a few months. Chloe’s school year last year

Despite the fact that Chloe has been in school for almost a month now, it is still very much summer here.
Georgia: KIRBO Interpretive Center
When Rob, the girls and I camped at Florence Marina State park lat February so we could hike in Providence Canyon State Park, we wanted to visit the Kirbo Interpretive Center, which “… showcases area wildlife and plants, local history and Native Americans, including artifacts from the prehistoric Paleo-Indian period through the early 20th century.”
instagram: fellini’s pizza
After the girls and I got home form the cabin, unpacked, cleaned up, bought groceries and went swimming, we walked down to Fellini’s to get some pizza. Since I’m planning to go “wheat-free” tomorrow, it was my last hurrah, and I wanted to make it a tasty one.
Georgia: Kolomoki Indian Mounds
Last weekend, the girls and I loaded up Evie for a weekend of camping at Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park as part of Camille’s native cultures in Georgia. From Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park: This historically significant park is the oldest and largest Woodland Indian site in the southeastern United States, occupied by American Indians from 350

The girls and I headed up to Etowah Indian Mounds today for some hands-on activities, including an archaeological “dig” and pottery-making.
Georgia State Parks
Ever since we got Evie and our Friends of the Georgia State Parks Pass last year, we’ve been visiting park after park here in Georgia. instagram: school picnic
Tonight was the school picnic at Chloe’s school. I’m glad I went only because Chloe had a good time with her friends. As usual, I felt very uncomfortable at the school event. I just can’t seem to enjoy large gatherings like that…especially ones that are centered around school.
photo friday: metropolis
On our way home from our trip to Saint Louis, we decided to make a short detour off the interstate to visit Metropolis. A quiet downtown square area, dwarfed by a huge statue of Superman greeted us. We took a little time to shop in the Superman gift shop and then snapped some photos before

Camille has listed a number of new pouches on her Camboodle Etsy site. I just love these little pouches!

I’m now even more official. At long last, I’ve managed to collect my patches from Fire Station 2 and get them and the shirts over to the tailor’s to have them sewed on properly. BTW, CAPS stands for “Citizens Assisting Public Safety”. I am a trained volunteer for the Decatur Fire Department, but I am
