Decatur: Bonfire on the Square
Our first “Bonfire on the Square”! The weather was slightly uncooperative – 70 degrees is just not chilly enough to merit a need for added warmth. The kids didn’t mind getting in close to roast their marshmallows. Or, sometimes, set the marshmallows on fire and then swing their flaming torches. I was pleased to see
ponce – 16 dec 2011
Today I barely did anything. I felt miserable when I got up, but around 10 I decided to shower and walk to the post office hoping that might make me feel better. Unfortunately, it made me feel so much worse. I went to bed when we got back and never really got back up.
Decatur: Expressions on the Ave
Chloe has now been attending school for two months, and tonight she had to get up in front of a “multi-purpose” room full of parents and speak two lines. She was quite nervous about this little part, but she did just great! I’m not a huge fan of chaotic gatherings such as the one tonight;
bonfire – 15 dec 2011
Despite the 70 degree temps in the day, Decatur lie a huge warming bonfire on the square last night. Marshmallows and sticks were passed out to all the kids. Parents were careful to watch that flaming wands did not set anyone’s hair on fire. A lovely evening on the square.
big tex cantina – 14 dec 2011
While our lunch was then than spectacular (Big Tex has very few vegetarian options at the moment, but Iโm hopeful that will change soon), we enjoyed our weekly Wednesday lunch out.
first methodist – 13 dec 2011
A beautiful, sunny and warm afternoon. Despite walking to the library and Kroger, I did not manage to get in 10K steps today ๐
Meeting Norton Juster
Friday night, the girls and I attended the culminating event of On the Same Page sponsored by the Little Shop of Stories, a great independent children’s bookstore just a couple of blocks from our new home. This year’s book was The Phantom Tollbooth, a book I hadn’t heard of until after Camille was born, but
decatur – 12 dec 2011
We have been walking, walking, walking. It is SO nice to be able to walk to get pretty much everything we need. Today I walked to get keys made, get money out, get a haircut, buy presents and get more groceries….
Snow on the Square
It has been almost a month now since we had snow on the square… I’ve fallen quite far behind here, haven’t I? A few Tuesdays ago when I went to pick up Chloe from school (school gets out at 3:45 and gymnastics starts at 3:45 — great plan), the kids filed out to the hill
girlsies – 11 dec 2011
We had a great time hosting one of Chloe’s old homeschooilng friends today; the girls have missed getting to hang out together and had a blast.
PL progressive dinner – 10 dec 2011
This evening, we headed to Pine Lake for the annual Holiday Progressive Dinner. It was nice to catch up with old friends during the evening.
flowers – 9 dec 2011
A we walked through the courtyard today, Chloe lamented that these are probably the last of the flowers and insisted that I take a photo.
terrific thursday – 8 dec 2011
We headed out to Decatur’s Terrific Thursday to see some dancers on the square, but all we found were these color-changing lights.
thumbs up – 7 dec 2011
It was a rainy, cold, windy day in Decatur, so Camille and I didn’t wander too far from home for our weekly lunch out. We just went across the street for veggie burgers and fries.
pumpkins – 6 dec 2011
Camille and I walked over to her homeschool classes today; it was great to get out and walk even if it sprinkled a bit now and then as we walked.
Will I ever Get Accustomed to School Events?
Chloe has been busily preparing for her debut on the big stage next week. She has a couple of lines to recite as well as songs she’ll be singing in a group. I think she’s less nervous than I am. A few weeks back, we attended our first “school-wide” even at Chloe’s new school. She
home – 5 dec 2011
I received a FB message from a “concerned” friend-of-a-friend on FB (is there a term for this connection?) who visited this blog via my facebook profile pic (a QR code). She was worried that I might not realized that my “exact location” was visible from my blog, making it public, and that I might want
gingerbread house – 4 dec 2011
Each year, we put together a new gingerbread house. This year’s A-Frame is courtesy of Trader Joe’s. But the girls really want a Tardis. Seriously, how difficult could that be??
lighting of the lake – 3 dec 2011
Today was a very Pine lake day, starting out with Breakfast with Santa and ending with the cookie exchange and the lighting of the lake!
volunteer decatur – 2 dec 2011
After a morning of work and an afternoon of projects, I walked over to Clairemont Elementary to help set up for Chloe’s school “spiritwear” sale. I walked back home, changed, and then walked over to the house where I was assigned as a volunteer on the Tour of Homes.
