threw in the towel
The pain in my knee not only didn’t get better overnight, it got worse and kept me up quite a bit tossing and turning. Although one of the issues I am forcing myself to deal with this year is my “white-coat syndrome”, Rob called his doctor for me and made an appointment for me, then drove me to it in the late afternoon.
I couldn’t find my wallet when it was time to go. I ran around looking in the three or four usual places. Rob found it in the place I had left it, but the running around left me in screaming pain. I could NOT sit in the passenger seat. Reclining it all the way so I was almost flat helped a lot. At the office, while the nurse was taking my health history, I couldn’t sit in the chair. She noticed and said I could stand; when I told her I had to be flat, she moved her computer off the exam table and let me have it. Whew.
As I had suspected. I have a pinched nerve, sciatica. My treatment is steroids (yuck), a little pain killer (I hope one or two is all I need) and then therapy, whether in the form of exercises, physical therapy or chiropractic adjustments.
The first dose of painkiller numbed the pain, but also left me feeling quite loopy for about fifteen minutes. Not pleasant.
I hope the steroids don’t increase my anxiety and make me even crankier than I am already …
Bonus: Now that I have BEEN to the doctor this year, even if only for an urgent care visit, I will have that much less reluctance to calling him for a annual (cough, cough) physical. It is time for me to stop burying my head in the sand and making excuses. I will take of any issues now and not keep on putting off the exam I so desperately need.

Oh pooh. I hope you and your knee feel better real soon – be it through treatment or by the grace of, um, you know, something divine.
