ice cream truck – 30 apr 2011
You’ve never seen such a mad rush as the rush of kindiefesters when the ice cream truck pulled up outside the venue!!
Visiting : The Guggenheim Museum
While the girls have certain favorite places to visit in NYC, I do try to make sure that we get to at least one new place each time we visit. This time, I decided it was about time for us to get to the Guggenheim. By the time we got there, after the subway ride
belvedere castle – 29 apr 2011
As we walked through Central Park, the girls were super excited to spot a castle! Right here in the middle of NYC!
Times Square means Chocolate
After our trip to NYC, we arrived in Times Square where I surprised the girls with a visit to the Harry Potter Exhibition. But then, once we were out and had a soft pretzel (gross) for a little sustenance, the girls wanted to visit places in Times Square. The Toys R Us with the Ferris
Photo Friday: RenFest
For a few years now, we have made a tradition of heading just south of Atlanta on a spring weekend to attend the Georgia Renaissance Festival. The girls love just about everything about it. The shows, ranging from acrobatics to jousting to craftspeople showing their crafts, are lots of fun to watch. The people in
Thoughts: The Journey is Half the Fun
The girls and I headed out yesterday to travel from Atlanta to Brooklyn for our annual kids’ music pilgrimage. The first challenge was the weather. Atlanta was very, very fortunate to have not been hit harder by the storms that rolled through. The tornadoes were north, south and east, but Atlanta was spared. No trees
times sq – 28 apr 2011
Yup. We made it to NYC despite the stormy weather. Fun times in Times Square, then off to Brooklyn!!
RenFest
Last Sunday, after the girls found all of their eggs, we headed down to the Georgia Renaissance Festival. Depsite being overwhelmed with I wanted to get done, I knew the girls really wanted to go, and this was the weekend for it. As we head towards summer, it gets hotter and hotter. We only have
lavender – 27 apr 2011
How I love my lavender! I need to get it transfered into a “real” pot soon … sigh.

dumbledore – 26 apr 2011
Dumbledore was going a bit crazy in her tank today (the season, the weather, the blueberries?), so we let her loose in the house. She wandered around for hours exploring the main floor — we blocked of the stairs down, just in case. Unlike her standard behavior, she didn’t head for a corner — she
Dyeing our Eggs
The kids like them. The process is a tradition here — eggs dyed from the vegetable and spice aisles. No PAAS here. We use red cabbage, beets, spinach, turmeric onion skins, blueberries and more. Unfortunately, this year we waited until the last minute, and I was caught up in other things. The girls took over.
Travel Tuesday: Weekly Favorites for 26 Apr 2011
Finally, we are going to be traveling again. I hope that my sciatica doesn’t decide to flare up while we are away from home! But … I love what I’ve been reading out there on the web, and I’d love to share my highlights with you. Here are some of my favorites from the week:
gazoo – 25 apr 2011
Gazoo has her own bedroom in our house. (At least she thinks it is hers.) But she also loves to nap in the midst of the working, homeschooling, playing too.
Planning a Trip: Step 3 – Gather Reference Materials
Last week I wrote about Step 2 in my planning process, fixing the most restrictive spots. In planning for our big trip out west, I had already collected a long list of potential stops, plotted them on a map, created a spreadsheet of sites and nights. Once equipped with a tentative plan, I found the
Peace, Love and Bugs
Saturday, after the Pine Lake Easter Egg Hunt, the girls and I went to UUCA to Peace, Love and Bugs. I thought the girls would get a kick out of checking out all the poptops, and they did! As it was a VW event, we decided it would be best to take Evie to it.
renfest – 24 apr 2011
Chloe loves the rides at RenFest — all human powered in one way or another …
One Step at a Time
As you probably know, I’m not a huge fan of clutter. One way to stop the clutter from becoming an issue is, of course, to make sure that there is a net outflow of crap from the house. I don’t buy plastic junkies for the girls. I discourage them from buying it for themselves —
pine lake egg hunt – 23 apr 2011
A chilly morning, but everyone came out in force for the Pine Lake Easter Egg Hunt! The prizes were these awesome felted eggs that Camille had helped to make…
to move or not to move
Such a hard question. For the past year or two, or even since we lived in DC, I’ve been itching to move. Not because I’m unhappy with our current location, really. I love Pine Lake. Our city of 700 people is an amazingly creative, friendly, unpretentious oasis in Atlanta. I’ve come to appreciate it more
