Seeing: Audubon Zoo
We woke on our last morning in New Orleans to a freezing, windy day. After I had worked a bit and had rescued the car from its garage, the girls and I checked out of the hotel and drove down St Charles to the Audubon Zoo (and they all ask’d for you.)
The dramatic change in weather had not bee predicted when we had left home, so we had very little in the way of winter weather wear with us. I farmed out my turtlenecks and sweatshirts and scarves to the girls in hopes that with enough layers on, everyone could try to keep warm. As we approached the entrance to the zoo, it appeared that we were the only ones braving the biting wind to visit the zoo. It was so cold that the zoo had put out a sign warning that a great number of the animals themselves were holed up indoors and not on view.
Despite the cold, we had a wonderful time! Chloe always loves visiting zoos, so she, the whiner of the group, managed to keep her attention diverted from her discomfort. As always, she LOVED the reptile house. The sea lions were a huge hit with both girls. The girls had a blast in the “archaeological dig” area.
Around lunchtime, we decided to stop in one of the cafes for some lunch. I asked “What do you have for vegetarians?” :nothing.” Oops. However, we were given suggestions of other cafes in the zoo that would have lots of choices for us. Whew.
It looks like the zoo has lots of things that would be fun if the weather had been nicer … since we all had so much fun, I’m sure we’ll go back another time.
