Travel Tuesday: Weekly Highlights for 22 Feb 2011
A weekend spent picking up our new roadtripping vehicle and camping at the beach in Myrtle Beach was just what I needed! But now we’re back home again, and I love what I’ve been reading out there on the web, and I’d love to share my highlights with you. Here are some of my favorites
Mondays are for Dreaming: Wild West
I dream of not only showing my children the world, but also our country. We’ve made many a road trip here in the US, but not the big iconic one….the weeks long journey “out west”. My parents took me and my sister on such a journey when we were both young. Rob and I went

One last hour at the beach before heading home.
a different myrtle beach
The girls and I have been off to Myrtle Beach a number of times, including Jan 2010, Sep 2009, May 2009 and Feb 2009 …. but those trips were unlike this latest one. All those times, we stayed in a nice hotel on the beach. And this time, well, we stayed at Myrtle Beach State
Eating Out: Green Goddess in NOLA
As vegetarians, eating out in New Orleans has always presented quite a challenge. Everything, everything, even the beans and rice, has meat or seafood in it. I always end up eating pizza, which isn’t very interesting… On our first night in New Orleans a few weeks ago, I turned to Yelp for help. Within minutes,

Knowing that it was going to be a cooler day and that the girls were hoping to go to MagiQuest, I took off for a morning walk on the beach. I was the only person out on the gorgeous beach. Oh how I love the beach!
silence
While we are in a state park on the beach, it is a bit noisy here. While the campground is full of retirees and not party animals, we are at the end of the runway of Myrtle Beach airport. The flights aren’t frequent and do seem to have reasonable curfew hours, but the planes are
beach – 19 feb 2011
Aside from getting used to the new van, getting organized and preparing meals, we spent most of our day either in the campground or at the beach. It turned out to be a gorgeous, relaxing day. Unfortunately, Rob had to head home midday and miss out on the afternoon beach trip and Camille cooking dinner
Pit Stop: Visiting Friends
I love it when a plan comes together so nicely. Back in January, I realized that Rob and my mom were about to have overlapping meetings in New Orleans, and I figured it was finally time for us to get back to the Big Easy… We haven’t been since Chloe was a baby, pre-Katrina. Since
clean slate
As I remarked on facebook, I’ve decided that my midlife crisis has given me license to throw out all the “I’ll never”s and “I can’t”s that I’ve ever uttered. It feels wonderful to have a clean slate. I’m tossing away the old baggage and starting new. I’m giving myself permission to try out things, to
pit stop – 18 feb 2011
It is quite rare that we take I-95 from South Carolina to North Carolina…. so Rob and I decided that while we were passing by, the kids should get the chance to stop at South of the Border at least once in their childhoods. The girls enjoyed all of the statues as well as the
Camping V3.0
First there was the little tent. Then last spring, we moved into the bigger tent, for camping 2.0. As of today, we have moved on to Camping V3.0. As I contemplated how to execute my mid-life crisis, I decided that it was time for me to finally realized my childhood dream of owning a pop
Photo Friday: Cafe du Monde
At first Chloe didn’t want to go. Apparently, she did not remember her earlier visits. Once, in New Orleans, when she was about 15 months old, and once when in Kyoto when she was days short of turning five. But, with the promise of a chance to sit down after all of our walking and

Thursdays are hard for me, but the girls do like having time to be with their friends!
all packed, ready to go!
Thursdays are never easy around here. There’s the early conference call that coincides with the time when we need to leave the house for Chloe to get to fencing. There’s the four and a half hours of being at the Boys and Girls club; while I *can* work from there (offline tasks only, unfortunately), it
Roadtrip: Popping the Top!
Yes, we did it. We bought me my mid-life crisis car. Not a sporty little two seater. No, none of that for me. I’ve wanted this car ever since I was a little girl. I’d like to claim that my first words were “PopTop”, but I don’t think my desire started quite that young. I

Another gorgeous and productive day. Two more dentist appointments over with and lots of homeschooling done. A nice walk around town and some time at the playground.

email – 15 feb 2011
The day got away from me because of our last minute trip to Chloe’s dentist (cavity-free is she!). But I did manage to take a couple photos with my phone — Chloe had to send a quick email thanking her friends for sending her sock back to her from their house.
Go Watson!
We’ve been tuned to the tv two nights in a row now for the big Jeopardy showdown between IBM’s Watson and the top two Jeopardy winners… It has been fun to watch, including the behind-the-scenes information! The show was taped at Thomas J Watson Research Center in Yourktown Heights, NY, which is where my parents
