pine lake memorial day
Despite the dire forecast, the stormy weather held off, and we had a wonderful Saturday of festivities and remembrances with our Pine Lake neighbors. We gathered at the clubhouse just before noon to decorate our cars, bikes, wagons, strollers, scooters. A number of elected officials and campaigning folks turned out. After some remarks from our mayor and others, the parade headed off in its normal chaotic manner down to the newly completed Eastern Wetlands. The mayor and Hank Johnson, our representative, talked about the project and “cut” the ribbon as we looked on.
Next up was the dedication of the gazebo to Paul Gumz. The mayor had taken Hank Johnson on a tour of the wetlands first, which delayed the dedication ceremony. As we waited, the cookout had already started, so by the time we got there, most of the food was already gone. Thankfully, there were plenty of veggie burgers left!
The girls pigged out on ice cream at the beach house ice cream social, then Chloe went swimming — the mayor had officially opened the lake for the season when no one was watching.
