packing
i have the notion that if I have just the right bag, packing and carting our stuff on a trip will be easy. I am always on the lookout for this elusive perfect bag. For our upcoming trip to Turkey, I am determined to not check anything while flying. Checking bags has so many problems.
kindiefest, here we come!
Today we packed. We sure are excited. We are heading, for the fourth year in a row, to Brooklyn! Brooklyn you ask? Yep, my birthplace. But that’s not why we make our (now) annual pilgrimage. As you likely are aware, we run a kids’ music blog and streaming radio station gooney bird kids. We love
austin adventures
Last fall, my mom came home from an auction with a Biscuit Brothers CD and tickets to a show at the Paramount Theatre in Austin. For April. The concert has been sitting on my calendar for all these months, but, until Wednesday evening, I wasn’t sure whether we’d make the trip to Texas. We did.
red poppy festival
last night, after our adventure filled drive and dinner at my parents’ house, we ventured out, 7 of us packed in my mom’s car, to the square for the Red Poppy Festival. My first remark was that Georgetown has changed dramatically in the past 20 years. People were sitting, on the courthouse lawn, with glasses
traveling with the girls
I am blessed with great travelers. I admit, that we have our share of butting heads, but overall my girls can hit the road or skies with ease. Nature or nurture? Probably a combination, I suppose. Car trip? Not a problem. We’re equipped with healthy(ish) snacks, Robbie (our XM receiver), audiobooks and notebooks. These days,
wild weather today
we had planned to have breakfast and then swim before leaving, but the weather report made me rethink our plans. I hoped that by leaving earlier, we would hit the storms before they had gotten stronger. Maybe that’s true or maybe not, but we had some wild weather. In Louisiana, the clouds started to get
on the road
Following a frenetic morning of working and packing and cleaning and watering, the girls and I are on the road again! I swear can feel my blood pressure drop 50 points when we get in the car and head out on a road trip. We didn’t get very far before we stopped for the night
wanderlust
i am so torn. I love our little Pine Lake hamlet. We’ve spent the past month exploring the new wetlands, watching the ducklings grow. We’ve watched the change of seasons from winter into spring into summer. We’ve celebrated and mourned with our neighbors. I love our city. But I’m ready to go…. And go we
DIY Public Works
a few weeks ago, Rob was debating what to use his REI dividend on. My answer: a new bike for Camille! Chloe learned to bike a couple of months ago and has been asking to go out on her bike all the time. Camille hated biking, and I was sure that if she had a
photogoon
For the past few years (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), I’ve tried to take at least one photo a day and post my favorite in my Picasa albums. I don’t always succeed in taking a photo a day, but each year I get closer. So far for this year, I’ve only missed about five days!
camping out
for our upcoming weekend at LEAF, we splurged on a new tent. Last fall when I took the girls to LEAF without Rob, the three of us barely fit in our old wedding present tent. And the rain, oh the rain, came splashing in on us. So I had Rob buy a new, bigger tent
like them lichens
Despite having wanting to go for months after seeing a neighbor’s photos, we had not taken the time to head to Arabia Mountain until yesterday. Why did we wait so long? Nearby, free, uncrowded and amazing!!! We were met in the “nature center” by a ranger, who suggested a hiking route for us to follow.
leftover st. patty’s cabbage
I am not a huge fan of cabbage. A little cole slaw here and there is fine, but, other than that, I can take it or leave it. Chloe, on the other hand, can devour shredded raw cabbage when in the right mood. She’s our rabbit. My mom had bought a head of red (why,
garden party
another week has passed with out a blog entry from me. between the busy season at work and the spring season outside, I haven’t had as much time to think or to blog about what I’m thinking about. I love the work and I love the spring; I just wish they came at different times.
happy birthday, free range kids
Last year, I wrote that camille and I were less than impressed with the book Free Range Kids by Lenore Skenazy. While that is still true, I find daily inspiration from her blog. I admit it. I am one of those parents. My kids roam freely. I don’t need to know where they are every
