stangest artichoke i’ve ever seen
After the girls and I picked up Barbara from the airport this afternoon, we joined the multitudes fleeing Atlanta for the mountains. The sun had gone away, but the leaves along the four lane were still showing their fall colors. Despite the heavier than usual traffic, we ran into no problems and felt relaxed as we crossed from Pickens (Marble Capital) into Gilmer (Apple Capital) County. Just yards into Gilmer County we turned off the four-lane to go to the Whitestone Farm stand. The stand itself looks as though it was build from all recycled materials. It gave off a nice old comfortable feeling.
Chloe went inside with Barbara to help pick up some produce. Chloe came out to show us one of their choices. Camille and I thought it was ginger from afar. Chloe came over and told us that it was an artichoke. An artichoke! That was no artichoke. Barbara came out with the rest of her purchases (yellow and red bell peppers and basil) and told us that the root (tuber) Chloe was holding is actually called a Jerusalem Artichoke.
Barbara used some of these new fresh veggies in the pizza that she made for dinner from scratch….YUM!
