you’re grounded!
last night the girls and I called our kitty Gazoo in at the usual time — when it starts to get dark. She didn’t come. Unusual for her to not come, but not unheard of. As the night got later, we became more and more concerned. Rob and the girls searched all the nearby streets;
chloe’s kayaking trip
on Sunday, Rob took Chloe down to Pine Lake for a trial run in the kayak. Apparently, she had a fantastic time out on our tiny little lake. She got to go out to Harry’s Island and walk around it; I don’t think many in Pine Lake have ever been out there! She’s looking forward
paper towels
i love my dish towels! I have a nice set of “plain” plaid ones for all seasons, plus a variety of holiday/seasonal ones that we rotate through during the year. These kitchen towels are not decorative; they are my workhorses. I don’t know how long ago, perhaps 4 or 5 years now, I banned paper
old friends
or are they new friends? Though we had never met them before yesterday, I’d definitely have to say they are old friends. When I was pregnant with Camille and back home from ICU and the hospital, I was busy reading and learning all I could. With no family and very few friends around, I felt
lake eden arts festival (leaf) – day 3
During the night, it actually snowed! None stuck to the ground at the camp, so the kids were disappointed. I got up before the kids to go buy some coffee and hot chocolate for us. Once we were warmed up, we headed over to Eden Hall for buffet breakfast. The sun was shining, making breakfast
lake eden arts festival (leaf) – day 2
after a night of lots and lots of rain, we woke to the LEAF “Family Campground” noises outside our tent. We dressed quickly and headed to Eden Hall for the breakfast buffet (priced by weight). We ate on the screened porch, which was really quite cold. The grounds had gotten pretty muddy during the night,
lake eden arts festival (leaf) – day 1
friday morning started off miserably. Nothing went right. The girls and I finally got on the road at quarter to 11 — I had been hoping to leave around 9. Remembering my illness following eating at Taco Bell on our trip back from Texas a week previously, we decided to stop for lunch at Moe’s.
what’s for dinner?
it’s that age old question, isn’t it? Through the years I’ve had various plans to answer the question. Serious meal planning and big shopping trips, daily menus and daily trips, a meal planning service that creates one big shopping list. While I’m still using the latter (see my post e-Mealz), I’m finding that I want
uncle ralph
Back in 2002, when Camille was four and Chloe was an infant, Rob was a member of eMusic.com. One night, he and Camille went searching that site for alternatives in kids’ music…we were SO tired of the drivel we had been listening to over and over. They both really liked music from a Chicago kids’
walk in the woods
this morning we woke to rain falling quietly, soothingly on the roof. We all gave in to the peace and had a slow start to the morning. Chloe and Barbara made a nice coffee cake midmorning as Camille worked on her homeschooling and I (mostly) happily worked on conquering my to-do list. Around noon, Chloe
entertaining corn
corn? entertaining? Yummy, perhaps. King, perhaps. But entertaining? Yes, in fact, it is. Our fall day in the mountains started out in Cherry Log at the Fall Festival. I was expecting a church bazaar type happening ans was not too far off. We were pleasantly delighted with the low-key affair, however. Cherry Log has a
stangest artichoke i’ve ever seen
After the girls and I picked up Barbara from the airport this afternoon, we joined the multitudes fleeing Atlanta for the mountains. The sun had gone away, but the leaves along the four lane were still showing their fall colors. Despite the heavier than usual traffic, we ran into no problems and felt relaxed as
photo friday: fast food
The Photo Friday challenge for last week was “Fast Food.” I took this photo at Austin City Limits last week, where the lines for food moved very fast! I loved how many vegetarian selections that were offered. Great festival food! This week’s challenge is “Dawn.”
GTT (gone to texas)
Last Wednesday (was it really almost a week ago?), I spent the morning working. Then packing. Packing for our trip to Texas. To visit family. Or maybe really to go to the Austin City Limits Festival, since both my mom and sister were in other cities. Packing has gotten to be quite easy. The girls
happy birthday, camille!
Yikes! A week has gone by without my updating the blog….I guess I’ve been preoccupied with other things, like getting us to Austin and working. Last Saturday, Camille turned 11! To celebrate, we tried to get her a new passport, but that plan was quickly scratched. Instead, we went out for brunch at Thumbs Up.
