Capital 10K
On Sunday, we woke early and headed down to Austin. Barbara, Phil, Jim and Marty were planning to walk, Suze and Luis to run, the girls and I to drink coffee and cheer them all on. (In the end, Jim chose to run.) It was FREEZING early, so as the race started, I ended with everyone’s coats to return to the car.
After the runners/walkers went on their way, we stopped at the car to drop off the shedded garments and then used the iPhone to find a nearby coffeeshop. We ended up at Dominican Joe’s, which was a really great place. The girls got a flavored milk (they exclaimed over how creamy it was) and a muffin to share. I got a nice large coffee and then acted like a fool as I couldn’t tell if the coin was a quarter or nickel. Am I a tourist? Do I use my credit card too much?
We then walked to the finish line — not so far from the start, of course — and waited for people to finish. I remarked to the girls that every year we managed to find everyone in our group, even without the use of a cell phone, and a man next to me said that he said the same thing to his wife. I guess 16K people really aren’t that many people?
After everyone was done and had gathered their swag, we headed back to the cars and over to Hula Hut, which has been a tradition now for years. We waited for our table of 14, finding ways to entertain ourselves at the bar.
