Lincoln’s 200th Birthday
Thursday Feb 12th was Lincoln’s 200th Birthday. After we left XM, we decided to get off th train at Metro Center and visit Ford’s Theatre. I had read that they were holding various celebrations there, including the grand re-opening of the theater after renovations.
I was surprised at the lack of a crowd! We walked right in, picked up free tickets to the 1pm presentation, and headed out to find a snack. The nearby Cosi was jam-packed, so we just got juice and crackers at the closest CVS (thanks iPhone).
We gathered in the tour line just before 1pm, headed into the theater and found seats. There was a nice sized crowd, but it wasn’t overwhelmingly full. A ranger in costume talked about the vents leading up to Lincoln’s assassination and then talked about the event itself. It was a very moving presentation!
We then crossed the street to The Peterson House, which is where Lincoln died the next morning. Both girls found the program to be interesting, which was really wonderful. Glad that we decided to check out the theater!
