Winter in DC
Even after our very late night last night, the girls and I were up early, in the car and on our way before 6am. We dropped the car at the car place, took the bus and checked in. We mailed our Netflix movie and a check at the post office and went through security. The girls, seasoned travelers, just couldn’t get it together at security. Chloe even almost left her boarding pass behind! We walked to Terminal A, looking at the sculptures, then stopped at Starbucks for some breakfast before settling in at our gate.
The flight was very short. Rob was there to meet us with coats for the girls. After taking Metro to the apartment to drop off our bags at the apartment, we headed to the White House and had a look at the National Christmas trees. We then walked down Pennsylvania. There is a great plaza there Freedom Plaza that has a huge scale map of Washington. Kids can run up and down the streets. Very fun! We bought tickets to the Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker at the Warner Theater. As we headed toward the Sculpture Garden, we walked by an interesting building and saw it was the Old Post Office and that free tower tours were offered. We went inside and found a food court and had some lunch before taking the elevator up to the bell tower and getting a great 360 view of the city!
We walked through Federal Triangle to the sculpture garden rink next. Rob and the girls bought tickets for the next skating session. As there was some time to kill, we walked fast over to the American History Museum and had a quick look around; it has just reopened after years of renovations. After a peek at C3PO and Kermit, we went back to the rink — I thought the girls would go around once and quit, but they both kept going round and round until their session was over.

We went ice skating down town a few years ago. I think the girls thought the whole purpose was to fall rather than to glide. They were soaking when when they were done!
This makes me think that next year we should most certainly make a trip during the holiday season too! – I love the photo of Chloe ice skating! I’ll have to show it to Booh.
I was really shocked at how much the girls enjoyed the skating! And the Christmas trees are fun to look at too.
