At the State Department
Today was the big day…. The Jefferson Fellows (of who one is) were officially welcomed at the State Department. Condoleezza Rice was supposed to participate in the ceremony but supposedly had to go to the UN to attend a speech by the King of Saudi Arabia about religious tolerance or some such thing. Huh.
The girls and I dressed in our brand new fancy duds and walked down to the state department where we went through security and got a visitor’s pass to go in.
We headed up to The Treaty Room Suite at the US Department of State for the ceremony. We waited in an inner room right next to the office of the Secretary of State, but weren’t allowed to bring cameras in with us.
We met Henrietta Fore, the Administrator, U.S. Agency for International Development and Director of United States Foreign Assistance and Under Secretary of State for Democracy & Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky before the ceremony in that little room.
Chloe got bored with the ceremony, but made it. Whew. Afterwards, lots of hand were shaken and photos taken. Chloe has so far announce twice on national satellite radio that she had a really boring day. Argh.

Did you get to eat in the State Department Cafeteria? Now, there’s an unforgetable memory in the making.
