Rainy Day Field Day
We are here in Chicago for our annual pilgrimage. The past two summers we have come to Chicago at least once to hear Ralph’s World in concert. Each summer we have spent at least one night in the hotel we are in right now (Typing poolside). I almost feel at home here. We know where Target is (managed to go twice in our first 12 hours in town) and where the Whole Foods is. I wish they’d stopping moving around the interstate ramps, though.
This morning, not unexpectedly, we woke to storms. Monitoring the storms on weather.com, I could see that they would be past by 10am, so we went to Target to buy garbage backs (makeshift tarp for under our blanket). We got to the Morton Arboretum only to find out that the show had been canceled.
It took no time at all to decide; it was off to The Field Museum with us! We had read on a blog last night that they re currently hosting a Mythic Creatures exhibit. Upon hearing news of the exhibit, the girls were (don’t tell him) ready to blow off Ralph and head to the museum. And now they could have both! TomTom knows the Field Museum, and I remembered my search for the parking garage last year. We were in the exhibit in no time at all. Both girls really enjoyed it; unfortunately, no photos allowed.
We spent hours wandering around the museum, seeing things we had seen before and wanted to get back to and seeing new things that were wonderful. We all just adore that museum!

We almost made a trip to Chicago this summer…but ended up in San Antonio instead. Maybe next year. What was the Mythic creature exhibit like?
I love Chicago!
The exhibit was pretty great. Lots of background from diverse cultures, explanations of the “cross-culture” progression of the myths, suggestions of where the myths came from, etc.
Both my girls really enjoyed it.
I’m not sure we can make it there before the exhibit closes ๐ It sounds fantastic!
Hi!
I just thought I’d check in to see what you guys thought about the exhibit. Hope you don’t mind me snooping. ๐ Glad you guys liked it as much as I did!

Of course not Holly! We did have a great day at the museum. Bummed as we were about the canceled concert, this was the silver lining. So glad I caught your post about the exhibit!
