Planning
Camille has rushed into her history curriculum for next year, not giving me the chance to look at it and figure out where it needs to be supplemented. So even though I had tons of work to do, we sat down and made up schedules for next year using google calendar. I had a look at the lessons that she has finished already and started to try to order books from the library to give her deeper study. I sure wish that there were a good “Recommended Reading” guide out there!
Then I started trying to compile what the kids had done, creating blog entries on our learning blog. If anything, Camille’s entries will help me when Chloe gets to that level. And keeping track of what we’ve done will also help me see in what areas we are falling behind.
I’m still trying to pull the pieces together, but that’s probably going to be true forever.

That was one of my biggest issues with HO. Not having the suggested reading lists like SOTW had in the activity guide. But I guess as they get older the books get longer and they don’t have as much time. But I still wish they had those lists. On my blog, there are a couple of sites noted with reading lists by time frame – I think it’s under HS History links.
Kat – Looking at them, I think I’ve looked at them and they are wither too limited (ancinet egypt, greece, rom only) or too Christian …
I really liked the SOTW readings, but this time around they are too elementary. Great for my beginning reader, but not for Camille. Sigh.
I want books on cuneiform, and other things like that. Camille reads SO much that I am having trouble figuring out what to do for her.
