Japan Trip – Day 2 (At the Beach + Jetlag)

After lunch, we headed down to the beach. There are few waves; there appears to be a breakwater a bit offshore. The swimming area is roped off and deepens very gradually, so the girls had a good time going out to the floats, climbing up and jumping off. Chloe did complain that it hurt her feet. The beach, while nice and sandy, does have lots of bits of coral.
Interestingly, no one at the beach seems to have a towel or blanket. Either people rent chairs, swims, or just sits on the sand. Most families with kids did have a few sand toys. Kids also all had inflatable rings. At the pool, all the kids had rings and wings, but only used one of the two at a given time.

I guess it is off-season as there were only about 20 families (not all with kids) on the beach. After swimming and then lots of beachcombing — way more coral than shells, Chloe decided she’d like to take a nap. Without towels, I had the girls walk on the beach for ten minutes to dry off a little before heading up to wash our feet and go in.

After we all had showers, we had some quiet time. I woke and saw it was 8pm! Oops. I guess we are a bit jetlagged. What time will those girls (still snoring) wake in the morning? Maybe when Rob gets back from his dinner they will get a second wind.

Oh, jet lag is awful, but it sounds like you’re having a great time. The beach is lovely, and how nice not to be overcrowded. How funny about no towels at the beach!
It’s a beautiful beach! Nicolas and I went to Japan for ten days once when his sister and her family lived there. We were in Tokyo and loved it but our favorite part was going on hte train a few hours north of Tokyo to Nikko. There are lots of natural hot springs there and beautiful temples and the mountains…We stayed at a small, reasonable hotel that is really used to westerners. If you are interested, I have the info for the info about the hotel. I look forward to reading along on your journey. Jet lag got us for almost a week when we went to Australia. But it can be fun being up early to explore.
I’m working on getting caught up with all my blogs…and trying to not be anti-social at the same time! I love the pictures and descriptions of your trip. We are only an hour behind here…and the girls are already somewhat discombobulated…so I cannot imagine a trip with that much of a difference.
How long will you be at this hotel? The beach and pool look great. But that toilet. Ummm…Western, please
Allison – It must be off-season, or the people don’t come here for the pool and beach (I think I remember golf as being a favorite past-time of more affluent Japanese?).
Madeline – thanks for the offer. We have our touring trip, once we leave here all mapped out. We will go to Kyoto, Hiroshima, Hakone and Tokyo (for just two days).
Kat – the toilets are a huge juxtaposition between the bells and whistles one in our room and that simple one by the pool. We’ll be here until Sunday.
