Headlines
Why, oh, why is the article Kenyan Rivals Sign Power-Sharing Agreement a minor headline in the Washington Post while the article A Pet Owner’s Final Choice is top news?? I go to the Washington Post for my “real world news” as opposed to the AJC, but maybe I need to find a better source?
Dedication A Go-Go
A couple of weeks ago, I headed over to Athens (Georgia, that is) to a kids’ music concert. By myself. Is this a sneak peak at my future? As the girls get older and I still enjoy the “kindie scene,” will I be taking more and more trips on my own? No matter, I enjoyed
Home Sweet Home
The girls and I got home today. As it goes, we missed Rob who is headed back to DC for the third time in a little over a week. Maybe we should just get an apartment there! As from the very first time we entered Pine Lake a little over a year ago, my whole
Sibling Rivalry
Chloe is green with envy. “It’s not fair” is her battle cry. Upon learning that I had put Camille’s Roman Villa (with flaps that lift to reveal the Latin words for the rooms of the house), she insisted that I dedicate a blog post to her masterpiece as well.
Mi Domus Est Tu Domus
How’s my Latin? Certainly not as good as Camille’s (or should we call her Camilla?). She’s in her third year of Latin and really enjoys it. In terms of her homeschooling, it strongly reinforces the grammar concepts that she has learned and has also deepened her love of history. In fact, Latin is what led
Let It Snow
It started snowing last night … when I got up around 5am this morning, it was snowing again. The girls ran around in the snow soon after it stopped coming down. Of course, they feel getting cold in the snow is a great excuse to drink hot chocolate. Chloe prefers her hot chocolate lukewarm. But
Snowing Yet Again
It has been a day of wild weather here in Georgia. At home in Pine Lake, the violent storms brought a tree down on a house on our street, trapping our neighbor inside; she was rescued by EMS and is recovering after surgery at a local hospital. It is unclear if the house can be
Lost in a Book
Saturday night was the Pine Lake chili cook-off. As the president of the neighborhood association, it was my job to make sure that publicity and preparations were taken care of, plus the awarding of prizes. Overall, the event was a smashing success. The beach house was crowded, but not overly so. Lots of our neighbors
Valentine’s Day Sugar High
On Saturday, we had celebrated the holiday of red hearts and sugar. The girls and I gathered lots of art supplies and invited lots of friends over to spend an afternoon of fun. We had cookie decorating, pin the heart on Cupid, valentines exchange and lots of running around having fun.
Gotta Hit the Road!
I’m fighting cabin fever. In my work mail today, I got a notice of an Air France deal that I almost snapped up. It would be less than $2K for the girls and I to fly to Paris for a week. I almost clicked “buy.” I know we would have a great time, even if
Chinese New Year
All along, we were excited about having guests for dinner tonight, but we found a great website with Chinese New Year’s Crafts yesterday, and the girls decided they wanted to do them ALL. We headed to Hobby Lobby for pipe cleaners, tissue paper, felt and more, and ended up making lots and lots of crafts.
Other Hobbies
Not much time to write here as I’ve been concentrating on some other projects: reading Don Quioxte, learning to draw, studying French, coming up to speed on being the president of our village neighborhood association (including revamping the website), preparing for next year’s homeschooling, starting to knit and more…. All you seasoned knitters, please don’t
