What was the biggest adventure of your past year?
Our biggest family adventure was our trip to Japan in the early summer. The customs, food and language are so very different from our own that it took patience and attention to find our way around and see the sights.
We had some difficulties with the foreigness, unfortunately. Chloe had a fever and I couldn’t figure out how to get some children’s tylenol for her (it didn’r seems to exist in Okinawa). It was impossible to find vegetarian food – everything had seafood in it.
But overall, we had a wonderful experience, seeing a different country by air, ferry, train and pirate ship.
Our other big adventure this year is living in two places. Rob living in DC, me and the girls living in Pine Lake. Back and forth, trying to maintain some normalcy while still taking advantage of having a homebase in Washington, DC. With being away from home as much as we are, it is hard to find balance. The mini-adventures, like our trips to the Eastern Shore of MD and NYC, are great fun. But I have been quite stressed about the daily things, like work, homeschooling and maintaining the house.

We didn’t go as far as Japan but had a wonderful family outing in Yosemite this year. This would be one of my best memory for 2009.
Then, spending almost 2 months in France this summer was also wonderful ๐
