phelix files: temperament test
For Chloe’s spring break, we are headed out of town (travelin’, travelin’!). But Phelix the dog doesn’t get to join us, poor duppy.
So what to do? We thought about a pet sitter, but he’s such a social dog that be awfully lonely staying home all by himself — except for Gazoo, who won’t give him the time of day.
So boarding it is. But where? I asked our neighbors in this dog-filled building and contacted the place that many folks seem to use. Before Phelix can be allowed go to daycare or be boarded there, he had to pass a temperament test … ack, a test! While Phelix did graduate from training, he’s still a handful. He never comes when called and eats everything but his food.
I dropped him off Monday morning and hoped for the best. I kept waiting for the phone to ring – “Come get your crazy dog!!”, but it didn’t. When I returned to pick him up, he had a glowing report — that described him to a T. “He wants all the other dogs to chase him!” Keep away is certainly his favorite game! Phelix clearly loved being with all the other dogs and running around — he fell asleep in the car before we had gone half a mile!
So, thankfully, we now have a local place that will accept the duppy for boarding. And he’ll love it!
