I’ve posted a few photos (sunrise at hike inn and foggy woods) from my trip to the Hike Inn but here a few more. A five-mile hike up, possible but a bit strenuous at times. A simple room and simple meals. A gorgeous sunrise. My time there was far too short.

diamorpha at arabia.
I don’t know when I’ll get back to Arabia. Now that the summer is here, I can’t imagine going outside for more time than is absolutely necessary. Perhaps in September it will be cool enough once again….
sunrise at hike inn.
Hard as it might be to get up early the day after a strenuous hike, missing the sunrise at Hike Inn is not an option. Even with the clouds, the sky is magical.
photo friday: carolina colleges
Back in February, Camille and I continued her college search by visiting four schools in North Carolina and South Carolina. The trip was rife with challenges from the start, and the snow and ice didn’t help. Snowed out of this. Snowed out of that. Delays and cancellations. Ice covered roads. Slips and falls. But we…
arabia again.
A cool morning. Ahead at work. A holiday in France. Time to not only go to Arabia, but explore a new trail without worrying about how long we’d be out. Phelix and I managed to make wrong turns a few times and lost the trail, but we backtracked and found it again. The problem with…
around atlanta: phelix’s glade
With a break in the hot weather, Phelix and I were able to get back to Arabia for two more hikes before summer hits back again. Phelix loves his glade; he splashes in the water and chases sticks and is in his happy place.
photo friday: florida beaches
While in Florida over Christmas break, the girls and I had the chance to visit two beaches, Casey Key and Casperson Beach. I much preferred Casey Key! But either way, we got to go to the beach!
around atlanta: cluetown emory
Family time. With a super-busy middle schooler and a high schooler who is balancing IB, college search, and work, it is hard to find time for family time. My goal is that every weekend, we do one interesting thing as a family. It isn’t easy, but I do try. Today we chose to visit Emory…
around atlanta: the whistle stop cafe
When planning our Saturday around Camille’s GHP interview in Locust Grove, we decided to visit some colleges near Macon. When I noticed that The Whistle Stop Cafe was between Locust Grove and Macon, I just knew we had to go and have some Fried Green Tomatoes … at last!
around atlanta: morningside nature preserve
I’ve been trying to get us out and about for a family outing once a week or so. This week, we went out for breakfast at Bagel Palace and then went for a hike. We had hoped to go for a longer hike, but with Phelix not allowed to hike right now, we opted for…
photo friday: st simons
This fall has been a stressful one in terms of work. Always behind, can’t seem to catch up. And, unfortunately, this made our first trip to Saint Simons not nearly as fun as it should have been. Lovely place, and I look forward to returning someday.
atlanta: arabia mountain
On Thursday, Phelix and I headed out to his happy place, Arabia. I didn’t expect it to be as dry as it was – even Phelix’s creek was an empty creek bed. But what I really didn’t expect was the fall flowers! Yellow daisies EVERYWHERE!
atlanta: munro light
As often happens, that which I want to do gets put off and put off. For a change, I kept my eye on the dates and, though it got done to the wire, insisted on going. Thankfully, despite homework and activities, the girls happily joined me to see Bruce Munro: Light in the Garden at…
photo friday: beach bums
While walking the beach at Hilton Head, we observed some of the local fauna. Lots of jellyfish, crabs and others.

off the beaten path
Hurry, hurry, hurry. Gotta to get it all done and there’s no time to do it all! I feel like I’e been living this way recently, and I need to find a way to reset it.(Once I get everything done!) I still have a long laundry list of things that need to be done before…
photo friday: home sweet home
Traveling has been on the back burner for some time now. I haven’t been out of town since January, when we went to High Falls State Park. In the past, there have been months when we would only be home for a handful of days. But those days are behind us. And I’ve run out…
photo friday: high falls state park
As with MLK weekend 2014, we headed to a yurt at High Falls State Park. Not far from Atlanta, the park makes a perfect weekend getaway. The yurts are a comfortable home-away-from-home for a weekend. With heat, lights and electricity, we were comfortable (I remembered to bring my coffee pot….no going out in the cold…
needle ice
With my Friday morning conference call ending early, Phelix and I headed out to Arabia ahead of plan. With our rush to leave, I neglected to check the weather for the day. I just threw on my usual: Keens (no socks), jeans, a turtleneck and a sweatshirt. When we arrived, Poppy reported that the temperature…
baby steps.
Leave it to me to choose the coldest day so far this winter to go on my first “long walk”. Part of my Energy and Empowerment year is to go on a weekly long walk. Sometimes in the woods, sometimes not. Sometimes with Phelix, sometimes not. To make it easy on myself, I decided that…
